old apartment

It is not easy to forget that old apartment my family and I lived in for many years. It was old and smelly, there were lots of roaches. A lot of times I woke up in the middle of the night to drink water. Every time I turned on the lights, there were lots of roaches running away desperate to hide somewhere. the apartment was torn up; the interior color was pink, there were broken windows, cabinets falling apart, and even worse, there was no air conditioning. it had a small cooler, which didn't cool the apartment at all. It was like having a heater on. the smell of the humidity was awful an suffocating. We were better off without that cooler on. The noise it made was disturbing and annoying.

The owner never cared about maintenance, but he was there for sure every first of the month to collect the rent. He was as old as his ugly pink apartments. This apartment was small, two rooms, one bath, a small kitchen and living room. It was was not comfortable living there, but as a child I did not cared about comfort. Ten people lived there. Those ten people were my extended family. To use the bathroom we had to get in line. Everyday after five, when everyone was back home, the television and radio were on aloud. It was a noisy place, especially on Fridays; "payday." They used to throw parties. They loved to grill delicious carne asada and drink lots of beer. Impossible to forget the smell and taste of carne asada wrapped in flower or corn tortillas

I used to like to live there because school was a few minutes from there, otherwise I disliked that place. I always preferred visiting my friends instead of staying home. In the winter when it rained, it was ugly; flooded and muddy all over. It was a ghetto, and very unpleasant living there, but it fortified my dreams to work hard to avoid living in a place like that after high school. Since we moved out of there, I worked to afford renting a cleaner place in a nicer neighborhooh. I have driven by the area to see if those apartment are still standing there, unfortunately, they are. The neighbors next door are still living there, unbelieveable! I will never forget that old aparment I lived in. Right after high school I got married, I rented a beautiful and clean apartment. In 2004 I bought my own house, then In 2006 I bought a second home, and now I just remember those days of my chilhood.
